Grape Expectations: Campovida

Hopland, although a small community, is filled with 16 wonderful local wineries, today we want to spotlight Campovida who is celebrating their 5th year anniversary.Throughout the years the land we know now as Campovida has passed from family to family. It was once home to the Pomo Indians, a cattle rancher, a railroad and timber baron, a hop broker, a lumbar executive and lastly host to winemaker Bernard Fetzer. But that's all history…who we want to talk about are a lovely couple named Anna and Gary who in 2010 fell in love with the property and are now the current stewards of this land. 

Originally living in Oakland the couple wanted to find their forever home, needing a bit more outdoor space than what they could get in the city. Little did they know that the future spot of their new dream home would become a full time business, and gathering place for people from all walks of life.  They worked hard to restore many areas of the property left behind from previous owners, and ended up with a successful winery, a beautiful prized garden, and enough space to hold conferences and food and wine events which keeps them very busy.

Campovida attracts people interested in retreats and lectures, wine enthusiasts, and food related business to the beautiful region of Hopland. So get in your car, and come visit Campovida in Hopland CA, make some new friends, and drink some wine. It's a great family run business and we can't wait to see what else the Campovida family will dream of next. Congratulations on your 5th anniversary!

Get ready for another fun filled night with Sid & Steve! Friday is gonna be hot … but nothing that a little tribute to Warren Zevon's Werewolves of London can't chill out! And you know these two are going to bring it! Come this Friday for food … Pagan Fire Pizza (PFP)!!! So show up with an appetite and enjoy some wood fired pizzas and of course my personal favorite .. the best Beet Salad in the County!  We are also planning on staying open later through the summer months … so that people can enjoy the sunshine and a glass of wine after work! Leftover wine? Never heard of it…but just in case.
 

Hands-on Time10 minutes

Total Time 20 minutes

Serves 4-6

 

Ingredients

butter for the pan

1/2 baguette, cut into 2-inch slices

1/2 small yellow onion, thinly sliced

1/8 pound thinly sliced cooked ham

3/4 cup white wine

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 1/2 cups (6 ounces) grated Gruyere

Directions

Heat oven to 400° F. Place the bread in a buttered ovenproof skillet, a 9-inch square baking dish, or a casserole. Scatter the onion and ham over the bread. Pour the wine over the onion and ham and sprinkle with the pepper and Gruyère.

Bake until the cheese has melted and begun to brown at the edges, about 20 minutes. Spoon onto individual plates. ENJOY!
